3/16 Update: Based on the comments, it appears that beyond ADK Loj there was more snow than in Lake Placid itself. So, still not great conditions, but better than we expected. Temperatures will warm Wednesday and Thursday with some precipitation on Thursday. With temperatures predicted to be around 40 it is hard to imagine that precip will be snow, but we will check after it cools down on Friday. By Sunday, it will be in the 50s, and that trend will continue into next week. We do have a good base that should support several weeks of good spring skiing. Don't put them away just yet.
Yes, between Saturday night and some additional "pop-up" snow flurries on Sunday we have received one-half to maybe one inch of powder on the crust. Definitely less under any thick stand of conifers. So, the flatter trails are still skiable, but most of the Jackrabbit Trail and backcountry trails need a few more inches of snow. Unfortunately, none on the horizon..Next update on Friday, 3/19, when we see what the weekend weather will be and when we might see some more snow.

The skiing on Monday from the Adirondack Log to Avalanche Lake was very good. 1-3" of the recent new snow covered the firm crust. The trail was broken out up to and across Avalanche Lake, making for excellent, fast skiing both up and down. Cold temps will have preserved these good conditions, at least until the next warm up.

Plenty of cover, icy and firm. Should be great when it warms up.

Hi Friends, Has anyone been up to Marcy recently? Should be nice when it warms up, eh? We skied a slide on Wolfjaw last weekend (3/12) - we got there at 2pm. It's a looonnngg ski in! The snowpack was a little weird. It looked like beautiful skiing from the bottom - but on the way up, we were punching through with our skis to what I call 'rotten snow'. It was totally weird and made it really hard to link turns on the way down. It's possible that we arrived too late in the day...but I'm interested in others' experiences with the snowpack.

Trail Conditions 101Trail condition reports are posted frequently during the ski season. The Adirondack backcountry can be a hard place to predict with weather and trail conditions that often change rapidly. We can't offer the same detailed descriptions of trail conditions as groomed nordic centers. Archives
