Ski Trail Conditions

The Big Snow 2/3/21

2/3/2021

Just a brief report to say that, as of Wednesday morning, the Lake Placid area has received a foot or more of snow.  It's nice powder and will make everything reported in the earlier report below fully skiable.  The only question will be what trails are broken out. We'll report what we know before the weekend.  Happy winter!

Hi. Skied Avalanche Lake Tuesday. We were the only ones. Tracked the whole thing to the lake. Perfect conditions with all the fresh powder!

I broke trail on Cooper Kiln from the Whiteface side to Forestdale snowmobile trail intersection then on to Forestdale Road during the storm Tuesday afternoon and had fresh and deep turns all the way down to the road. It was blissful. Tracks almost completely covered on the way back so I’m not sure if that helps anyone!

    Trail Conditions 101

Trail condition reports are posted frequently during the ski season.  The Adirondack backcountry can be a hard place to predict with weather and trail conditions that often change rapidly.  We can't offer the same detailed descriptions of trail conditions as groomed nordic centers.

Always plan ahead for your outing, be prepared with proper clothing, equipment, maps and emergency supplies, and check local weather conditions as well before departing on your trip.

Maps - don't leave home with them!

For trails in the High Peaks Wilderness area, we recommend purchasing the High Peaks Adirondack Trail Map from the Adirondack Mountain Club.

For trails outside of the High Peaks area, we recommend purchasing the Lake Placid & Saranac Lake Winter Trails Map from Green Goat Maps, which covers the Jackrabbit Ski Trail and other adjacent ski touring opportunities.
