Looks like an early start to mud season in the valley, and so far no sign that winter will make even a brief return. Any skiing is limited to areas above 3,000 feet. Many hiking trails still have significant ice even below 3,000 feet, and reports of those hiking this past weekend indicate that even Microspikes are inadequate for some of the steeper pitches. Thus, either wear crampons or stick to lower trails or south-facing ones. Rooster Comb and Snow are in decent shape. Blueberry Cobbles and Bald Peak in New Russia are also likely good choices. Those considering any higher peak should expect ice that grades to 4-5 feet of snow above 4,000 feet.
