**The Jackrabbit Trail's namesake - Herman "Jackrabbit" Smith-Johannsen lived to the astounding age of 111. He gained widespread recognition for being one of the first people to introduce the sport of cross-country skiing to North America and left a indelible mark on ski touring in the Adirondack High Peaks region.
