About the Position
BETA is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead our staff, work with our Board of Directors, and partner with volunteers, trail users and community leaders in pursuit of our mission. The BETA Executive Director is the principal executive officer of the organization, responsible for fundraising, staff supervision, administration, long-term planning, day-to-day operations (e.g., banking, payroll), maintaining high-quality trail standards, managing organizational risk, and relationship-building.
Competitive candidates will bring nonprofit leadership experience and the skills and passion necessary to inspire the community, as well as embrace the unique history of the organization and sustainability of recreational trails currently under our stewardship. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and charismatic team player who enjoys being the public face of the organization, can inspire and motivate stakeholders and foster the unique culture of BETA’s trails community.

About BETA
The mission of the Barkeater Trails Alliance is to build, maintain and advocate for a system of community and backcountry trails for ski touring, mountain biking and other human-powered activities in the eastern High Peaks region of the Adirondack Park. At its core, BETA is a member-supported, volunteer-driven, human-powered trail building and stewardship organization practicing “hands in the dirt” activism at the local and regional level. BETA is regarded as a leader in the trails community in the Adirondacks and statewide.
The result of two like-minded organizations combining forces for greater efficiency and outcomes, BETA is at an important inflection point. In 2021 BETA prioritized long-term planning, staff development and increasing our capacity to bring the organization to new heights. With its close knit community of supporters and stakeholders, a focused strategic plan, clear and achievable mission, objectives and goals, and strong partnerships with local nonprofits, municipalities and state agencies, BETA is well-positioned for a new leader to continue its trajectory of success and strategic growth.
