Winter is back - at least in a few places

After Friday's meltdown, it has turned around and there is again snow starting at the Toll House on the Highway. 2-3" at the Toll House as of Tuesday grading to about 6-8" by the Lake Placid Turn at 4,000 feet. Beyond that, wind will have made the cover uneven, but hopefully covered up much of the ice on the final stretch to the Castle.

The forecast for the week does not call for any valley temperatures higher than the 30s, so the coming weekend will be good as will be some golf course skiing in Lake Placid.

11/11/25: Craig Wood Golf Course/Scotts Cobble Nordic Center:\4-6" dry powder over wet ground, making for "cakewalk"conditions , especially for waxless / "fish scale" bases. Glide wax is recommended.

Trail Conditions 101

Trail condition reports are posted frequently during the ski season. The Adirondack backcountry can be a hard place to predict with weather and trail conditions that often change rapidly. We can't offer the same detailed descriptions of trail conditions as groomed nordic centers.

Always plan ahead for your outing, be prepared with proper clothing, equipment, maps and emergency supplies, and check local weather conditions as well before departing on your trip.

Maps - don't leave home without them!

For trails in the High Peaks Wilderness area, we recommend purchasing the High Peaks Adirondack Trail Map from the Adirondack Mountain Club.

For trails outside of the High Peaks area, we recommend purchasing the Lake Placid & Saranac Lake Winter Trails Map from Green Goat Maps, which covers the Jackrabbit Ski Trail and other adjacent ski touring opportunities.
