Weekend 11/15-16 looks good - at least for this early

It has continued cold with intermittent snow, so there is definitely skiing for this weekend. Best bet is still the Whiteface Highway where there is snow starting at the Toll House and a foot or so at the summit. Some windblown areas likely on the exposed turns, but still skiable. See photo for conditions on the first mile of the Highway as of Wednesday.
Golf courses are covered but still marginal. The ground under the snow is still a bit warmer, so sticking is likely to be a problem. Glide wax recommended.
Also, a report of 3-4" on the Hayes Brook Truck Trail in Paul Smiths. Again, marginal but skiable.
And next week so far does not seem to warm up, so maybe, just maybe, we're in for a longer than usual season.

A+, top notch, cruise control the whole way down conditions today on the Whiteface Memorial Hwy. First time I have ever seen snowboards (3 of them) ride it. Won't be the same tomorrow with this weather moving in overnight. Still early season with more chances to come!

Nov 17: John Brown Farm Trails are good-excellent. A base of a couple of inches with 4-5" more on top. The hill trails are a bit hairy with a a few rocks poking out, but mostly these smooth woods trails are great. Guessing Heaven Hill Trails are likewise.

Trail Conditions 101

Trail condition reports are posted frequently during the ski season. The Adirondack backcountry can be a hard place to predict with weather and trail conditions that often change rapidly. We can't offer the same detailed descriptions of trail conditions as groomed nordic centers.

Always plan ahead for your outing, be prepared with proper clothing, equipment, maps and emergency supplies, and check local weather conditions as well before departing on your trip.

Maps - don't leave home without them!

For trails in the High Peaks Wilderness area, we recommend purchasing the High Peaks Adirondack Trail Map from the Adirondack Mountain Club.

For trails outside of the High Peaks area, we recommend purchasing the Lake Placid & Saranac Lake Winter Trails Map from Green Goat Maps, which covers the Jackrabbit Ski Trail and other adjacent ski touring opportunities.
