INTRODUCTION
We picked up another inch or so of light snow Sunday night, and with cold temperatures and more light snow predicted for the week ahead, we can look forward to a good stretch of early-season ski conditions.  Next update on Friday when we know how much new snow has fallen during the week, and what the weather for the weekend will be. Current reports predict a high of only 20 degrees on Friday, and not much warmer on Saturday.

JACKRABBIT TRAIL
No section can be recommended at this time.  Maybe by the weekend some of the smoother, flatter section will be skiable.

BACKCOUNTRY CONDITIONS
See previous report for Marcy Dam Truck Trail conditions. New snow only enough for a slight improvement on those conditions. Report from yesterday confirms that the Newcomb Lake Road is good skiing with just a few thin spots under the conifers. Fish Pond Truck Trail also a possibility as is Hayes Brook to the Sheep Meadow. Photo of Newcomb Lake Road below.  Lake Colden had 7" of snow before the new snow, so definitely more than the 8" that requires skis or snowshoes, but not enough to ski past Marcy Dam

Thanks for the updates!

Over the last few days have headed out every afternoon:

-Rail Trail near McMasters Crossing (Sunday): great conditions, an inch of packed base. No snowmobiles yet, just some foot traffic and snow bikes.

-Bloomingdale bog trail (from SLK side) (Sunday and Monday): very thin, but definitely passable. Monday was better after the refill. Every time the trees encroach it gets thinner.

Would love if people have any BC updates from Tupper Lake area. I assume there is more snow out there, wondering if trails are passable yet or if it’s still just the forest roads. Thinking about deer Pond for Saturday.

    Trail Conditions 101

Trail condition reports are posted frequently during the ski season.  The Adirondack backcountry can be a hard place to predict with weather and trail conditions that often change rapidly.  We can't offer the same detailed descriptions of trail conditions as groomed nordic centers.

Always plan ahead for your outing, be prepared with proper clothing, equipment, maps and emergency supplies, and check local weather conditions as well before departing on your trip.

Maps - don't leave home without them!

For trails in the High Peaks Wilderness area, we recommend purchasing the High Peaks Adirondack Trail Map from the Adirondack Mountain Club.

For trails outside of the High Peaks area, we recommend purchasing the Lake Placid & Saranac Lake Winter Trails Map from Green Goat Maps, which covers the Jackrabbit Ski Trail and other adjacent ski touring opportunities.
