A second weekend of skiing

UPDATE 11/7/25:  Continued cold with some additional precipitation this past week means that the Whiteface Highway will be good skiing right from the Toll House for another weekend. The weather won't be all that good, but nothing bad enough to keep the skiing fun. Lake Placid golf courses will be "slidable" on a mixture of snow and slippery grass.

UPDATE: SATURDAY 8:00 AM  There is snow at the Toll House level on the Whiteface Highway, but likely not much on the Lake Placid golf courses.  Cloudy this morning with some sun in the afternoon.

The forecast looks good for snow on the Whiteface Highway, and this time by Saturday morning it could be right down to the Toll House. No guarantees as it hasn't happened yet, but we'll check the web cams tomorrow morning.  There is also the possibility of some sliding on the local golf courses tomorrow and Sunday.  Again, no guarantees but it's worth checking.  This new snow may not last past Monday as then temperatures go back up to 50 or so, but it does look like a promising start to the season.

Are there web cams on the actual toll road? Or are you talking about other ones in various locations around the area?
Thanks for all your updates all winter.

    Trail Conditions 101

Trail condition reports are posted frequently during the ski season.  The Adirondack backcountry can be a hard place to predict with weather and trail conditions that often change rapidly.  We can't offer the same detailed descriptions of trail conditions as groomed nordic centers.

Always plan ahead for your outing, be prepared with proper clothing, equipment, maps and emergency supplies, and check local weather conditions as well before departing on your trip.

Maps - don't leave home without them!

For trails in the High Peaks Wilderness area, we recommend purchasing the High Peaks Adirondack Trail Map from the Adirondack Mountain Club.

For trails outside of the High Peaks area, we recommend purchasing the Lake Placid & Saranac Lake Winter Trails Map from Green Goat Maps, which covers the Jackrabbit Ski Trail and other adjacent ski touring opportunities.
